The Mapleys in Wellington, NZ

Early Wellington

Wellington has served as NZ's capital since 1865, replacing the previou scapital Auckland, due to its proximity to the south island and its large port. It was named by the New Zealand Company, after the Duke of Wellington.

Joseph Maberly settled in Wellington (1914 electoral register) after moving from Waimate with his family. He then moved on to Auckland, but by 1928 Arnold John had married and was living in Wellington.
