The Mapleys of Hanslope

Some of the earliest Mabley's in Buckinghamshire are recorded in the 16th. Century in Hanslope, thereafter spreading to Newport Pagnell (Lawrence Mabley born 1629). The Mabley's appear to have migrated south 10 miles from Northampton, one of the largest towns in England in the Middle Ages following the Norman conquest. Within one generation the Mableys migrated to nearby Newport Pagnell in the 1590's. By mid-19th. Century there were no Mapleys recorded in Hanslope.

Hanslope is a village and civil parish in the Borough of Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, England. The village is about 6 km northwest of Newport Pagnell, 2 miles from Castlethorpe and Little Linford.

Hanslope was included in the grant of land to the Norman Maudit (or Mauduit) family by William the Conqueror following the Norman Conquest and the family's seat was Hanslope Castle, which later became Castlethorpe. Resident Adam de Harvington was given the living of Hanslope. He became England's Chancellor of the Exchequer in 1327.

Hanslope was a centre of Buckinghamshire lacemaking in the 19th century. Early in the 19th century, Hanslope lace was noted as being particularly fine, and in 1862 about 500 women and children in the parish were employed making pillow lace.
